Lets speak Suomi! Welcome to Neulamäki Library Language Café to learn to speak Finnish in a relaxed atmosphere.
Language Café is an open, relaxed event where you can practice speaking Finnish while playing board games. When you strike up a conversation, it’s easy to get to know new people and cultures. Of course, you can also participate just by listening!
Library staff will also take part in the games and conversations to collect ideas for future gatherings.
So come along, bring a relaxed attitude and a smile! You can take your whole family with you if you like! No registration needed. Coffee and tea available.
Elävä äänikirja – Live reading sessions

Do you need relaxation after a hectic day? Come and join the live reading sessions at Kuopio Main Library where you can listen to books being read aloud in Finnish while you relax and listen. You can also take your knitting along or busy your hands with colouring pictures available at the event.
Board game nights for ages 15 – 200
Come and spend a fun game night at the library in nice company! You can play the themed games or choose one of the other featured games. There is also the staff to guide you and play with you. There will be five boardgame nights in the spring season 2025 and they all take place on Wednesdays. Welcome!

Kuopio City Orchestra Visiting Kuopio City Library
Kuopio City Orchestra celebrates the 250th Anniversary of Kuopio by giving out a series of mini concerts at Kuopio Main Library in spring 2025.
Small groups of City Orchestra instrument players perform on the second floor stage of the Main Library once a month starting in January. In addition to music there will be interviews of guests related to the music scene of Kuopio. The entry is free to the concerts but there is a limited number of seating.
The mini concerts are held on Tuesdays 14.1., 11.2., 11.3, 15.4. and 20.5. at 17.30. The duration of each concert is 45 mins.
The concerts are part of the program of Kuopio 250 Anniversary and they are organized in cooperation by Kuopio City Library and Kuopio City Orchestra.
Concert at the Library: Petri Pettersson & RunOmen
Petri Pettersson & RunOmen perform on the second floor stage of the Main Library on Thu April 24 at 17.00. The concert is a part of the Kuopio250 anniversary program.
The ensemble is made up of four members: Petri Pettersson (vocals), Harri Pettersson (trumpet, vocals), Jussi Poutiainen (guitar, vocals) and Jouni Kuronen (piano, vocals). The repertoire of the concert consists of e.g. music composed to the poems of Aaro Hellaakoski. The duration of the concert is about 45 mins.

Story times for children
Story times are available in Kuopio Main Library. The language used is Finnish and once a month there is a story time with support signs (tukiviitottu). Story times are for children between the ages of 3 and 6 with their caretakers.
